“Wow!” Eyes wide. A protracted silence. An appreciative smile. These are the reactions when someone sees a pen draw a solid line in the air for the first time–something that defies what is known and understood.

On their own, a 3D printing pen and colored plastic strands are just products. In the hands of people, they become versatile tools, and it’s in this space–where ideas & technology meet–that we see creativity unfold in so many incredible and unexpected ways.

It’s our desire to foster these moments of amazement, as well as a continuing sense of wonder and curiosity around 3Doodler. That’s one of the reasons we love working at 3Doodler, and it’s also the impetus behind UPWARDS, our new blog, which we are launching today.

Upwards is the place where we’ll explore creativity, the forms it takes, and the people behind the ideas, solutions and resulting works of art.

For us, it’s simple: creativity resides in us all. We see it in inventing, designing, fixing, building, and an appreciation that the simplest solutions are often the most creative. Creativity is so much more than artistic ability, and we feel deeply compelled to uncover, explore and celebrate creativity in all its forms.

"Upwards is the place where we’ll explore creativity, the forms it takes, and the people behind the ideas, solutions and resulting works of art."

UPWARDS will cover the latest 3Doodler news, deep-dive features, new ideas, and the people behind them, plus a specific spotlight on education. We hope it becomes a place where you’ll come to stimulate your creative life.

We’ll continue to develop and post new step-by-step projects, stencils and Hot Tips content on the 3Doodler site, which already offers over 250 free projects. It is our desire that these two sides of 3Doodler provide you with all the inspiration you need to create, make, fix, and do amazing things.

We wanted to kick off UPWARDS by pulling back the curtain and introducing you to some of the wonderful & unique people behind it.

Faraz, 3Doodler Creative Director

My favourite thing to Doodle

The famous ‘3Poodle’ – A Doodler’s best friend.

What inspires my creativity

Modern furniture, sleek packaging, good style and natural light in any room—a lot of it.

The story I can’t wait to see on Upwards

I love the stories of the self proclaimed “I’m not creative” types who end up Doodling anything from beautiful masterpieces to problem solving life hacks. Hope to read your story here soon!

Kira, 3Doodler Junior Designer

Three words to describe my creative life

Sporadic, emotive, musical.

My favorite thing to Doodle

Anything wearable like funky accessories with the 3Doodler Start pen.

The story I can’t wait to see on Upwards

I can’t wait to hear more about how our pens impact the way kids learn. I grew up as a creative mind stuck in an academic-based school, so seeing how our pens cultivate tactile learning means a great deal to me.

Daniel, 3Doodler Co-Founder

Three words to describe my creative life

Playful, intricate, [often] unfinished.

What inspires my creativity

The people around me, as well as my travels. When jumping from city to city for work, it’s amazing to take in the millions of different cultural, artistic, and creative details that exist in every place.

The story I can’t wait to see on UPWARDS

Stories unveiling what happens when you place a 3Doodler in the hands of a tapestry artist, a wood carver, or a potter, and seeing how they integrate the 3Doodler into their work.

Kelley, 3Doodler Marketing Director

Three words to describe my creative life

Classic. Minimal. Curated.

My favourite thing to Doodle

Retro mini robots (to add to my collection!) and usually in neon colors.

What inspires my creativity

Mid-century architecture. Modern furniture design. A beautiful logo. A perfectly curated interior, outfit, or wardrobe.

Ryan, 3Doodler Lead Developer

Three words to describe my creative life

Dare to fail.

What inspires my creativity

Few things charge my brain like the basics: reading and (especially) writing about everything and anything. Lately though it’s been travel, that sublime stimulation from new sights, sounds, smells, and the underlying people and processes that bring it all to life. Oh, and coffee.

The story I can’t wait to see on Upwards

Artist profiles! As a web designer, launching new sites is great, but to create one that serves as a vehicle for other creatives to showcase their work is doubly satisfying.

Ariel, 3Doodler Community Manager

Three words to describe my creative life

Frantic impulsive energy

What inspires my creativity

Boredom, lack of impulse control, and desire for utility. When I get bored I just HAVE to make something! Then suddenly I’ve bought 50 skeins of yarn, a pottery wheel, etching tools, and every shade of plastic in the 3Doodler store. But I’m also practical, so I always need to make something that has some sort of use or purpose.

The story I can’t wait to see on Upwards

A feature on the plastics! Some might think it’s boring, but there’s a great story there, and I just love knowing the details behind even the most seemingly common things.

Max, 3Doodler CEO & Co-Founder

Three words to describe my creative life

It is possible.

My favorite thing to Doodle

I’m notorious for having a 3Doodler and plastics on me at ALL TIMES, so I’m ready to Doodle anytime, anywhere. I really enjoy making things with moving parts and joints, like walking robots, because it challenges me to find new techniques. I also like making and showing others how to make practical things, like phone cases, and my Doodled wallet – still going strong after years of use!

What inspires my creativity

The world around me and the need to solve problems.

Along with the whole 3Doodler team, we’re proud to invite you inside Upwards, our newest creative home on the web.
